|Humans of Hiram — March 2018 Spotlight|
Anne Haynam ’83
Anne was born and raised in Kinsman, Ohio. During her time at Hiram, Anne studied Classical Studies and Physical Education. She credits Hiram for teaching her the ability to embrace differences and learn to move forward. Some of her favorite classroom memories involve time spent with former Professor Robert Sawyer who inspired her with his classroom topics and ability to connect with his students.
She treasures her memories of living in Bowler when it was an all-girls dorm, too. Anne remembers geese following biology students throughout Bowler, spending evenings playing poker in the “living room”, and cooking large meals with her friends.
Anne currently resides steps from campus. She loves walking her dog, Jackson, around Hiram and jokes that he often receives more “Hiram Hi’s” than she does. On these walks, she enjoys watching the hustle and bustle of campus, observing students work in the gardens and taking note of the many statuesque trees planted so many years ago by former professors. She is inspired by the diversity that surrounds her in the Village of Hiram and on campus and appreciates the peaceful sense of safety offered by both places.
Anne describes herself as inquisitive, thirsty, and in motion. She draws upon all these qualities in her current work as the owner/chef of her personal chef company as well as a part time mental health counselor. She enjoys cooking and traveling to learn more about culinary traditions around the world. She believes food tells a story about people, places, and ingredients. When she isn’t cooking, traveling or both, she is focused on her own piece of the planet and sustainability.
Meet Anne at Alumni Weekend June 15-17, 2018 where she will host a summer wine and food pairing class.
Humans of Hiram spotlights a different faculty, staff, student, alumni, or friend each month.
