An Evening of Hiram Writers
tuesday, April 7, 2020
Hiram College, Kennedy Center
11715 Garfield Rd.
Hiram, OH 44234
Join Hiram College alumni and friends for an evening of recognition and celebration. Ruth Thompson started a fiction contest in 1994 in memory of her daughter, Barbara Thompson '77. Sadly, Ruth Thompson passed away on December 25, 2018.
To honor her memory and the legacy of the contest she created, we invite you to return to Hiram College for an evening with other Barbara Thompson Award winners, current students and faculty members, and Ruth Thompson’s family. We would love to have as many winners and honorable mentions as possible join us to reconnect and informally share stories of their writing lives and career paths with each other and with current students.
Enjoy appetizers, a beverage and the chance to mingle with current students and other alumni. Afterwards, at An Evening of Hiram Writers, we will honor Ruth Thompson, and the winners of this year’s Hiram College writing contests will receive their awards and read excerpts from their winning pieces in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. This event is free, and you can register by clicking the button above.
5:30 – 7 p.m. Reception, Brown Fall Room, Kennedy Center
7 p.m. An Evening of Hiram Writers, Ballroom, Kennedy Center
If you cannot join us, please a message to email@example.com about what you are doing now, how you are using writing today, and what winning a prize or honorable mention in the Barbara Thompson contest meant to you. We will compile responses into a booklet to be shared with all of the winners as well as Ruth’s son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Robin Thompson, who will continue to sponsor the Barbara Thompson Award.
