Matt '09  is currently finishing his MA thesis at School of the Art Institute of Chicago on the work of Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. He recently was accepted to Princeton for a PhD in architectural history to continue his work into Japanese postwar architecture.

Jean Roop Valence '68 has retired after 35 years in the management and marketing of architecture and engineering firms. She and her husband, Phil, have moved from Massachusetts to Sedona AZ, where Jean is a hospice volunteer.

News from Eddie Gisemba '09

Eddie '09 took over as Alcohol and Drug Abuse Initiative director at Sam Huston State University in January. The ADAI was formed in 2005 after a high number of SHSU students died in alcohol related incidents. In 2007 ADAI expanded on the issue of drug abuse as well. Eddie hopes to get students more involved in the cause.

Jack and Judy (Moon) Mumma, both from the class of 1962 celebrated their 50th wedding aniversary this summer with an Alaskan cruise and a weekend in Hocking Hills with their children and grandchildren. They say Hiram was a wonderful place to meet!

Alice '52, her husband Bill, and with help from her eldest child continue to operate their cut-your-own Christmas tree farm north of McHenry, Illinois. Alice and Bill are also quite active with the Quakers in Illinois and elsewhere.

Paula '45 is enjoying her life at the Harlemwood Heritage Heights retirement community. She still is able to visit her home in Randolph, New Hampshire every summer where she has a garden, lots of room for family and friends, and trails to walk on.

Graduation from Basic Military Training, United States Air Force

On 27 Jan 2012, Melissa L. Maskulka (Class of 2007) graduated Basic Military Training, becoming an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force.  She was named an Honor Graduate and continues technical training in Texas.
