Hiram Night Out with President Chema in Charlotte, NC

Come out and meet other North Carolina Hiramites as President Chema visits Charlotte, NC. Hiram alumni Steve and Pam (Enos) West '67/'67 will host a cocktail and hors d'oeuvre reception at the Charlotte City Club. Hiram Night Out in Pittsburgh
 

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust welcomes alumni and friends of Hiram College for a private reception and gallery talk at the Wood Street Galleries. Enjoy beer and wine while curator Murray Horne provides us with a brief presentation about the exhibit, Miguel Chevalier's Power Pixels 2013. Hiram College Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship Workshop on Legal Basics for Businesses
 
 

Join Danielle Angott Higgins, associate of Day Ketterer Law Firm in Canton, Ohio, for an insightful workshop on important legal basics for businesses. Topics will include: tax and non-tax considerations when choosing your business, type, technology, and intellectual property rights, financing business, product development and distribution, and the top 10 mistakes entrepreneurs make and how to avoid them. Scavenger Hunt at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

Represent Hiram College at the Third Annual Cleveland Alumni Clubs Scavenger Hunt, sponsored by the Harvard Club of Northeast Ohio. Hiram College Students Take Classes To The Seas
 

During this past fall's three-week session, two Hiram professors, Rodney Hessinger and Renee Gutierrez, took twenty two students on an educational trip to the Caribbean. What might sound like a leisurely cruise was in fact a rigorous 17 day exercise in managing a sailing ship. Days on the ship not only included class time, but cooking and ship maintenance as well. Students Witness History in Washington, D.C.
 

Nearly 50 Hiram College students, faculty and staff witnessed history on Jan. 21, 2013, as they traveled to Washington, D.C. on a 24-hour bus trip for Martin Luther King Day and President Barack Obama's second inauguration. Work Begins on Energy-Efficient TREE House
 
Hiram College is taking the next steps in renovating the energy-saving TREE (Teaching, Research and Environmental Engagement) House with an initial energy analysis. On Feb. 6, energy specialists Pam Pierce and Gregory Jones from Learn About Green LLC led a group of students and faculty through the process, which involves a blower door test, duct blaster test, thermal imaging and more. President Chema Named to NAICU Board
 

Hiram College President Thomas V. Chema has been named to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Chema will take his seat on the board Feb. 6, when the body meets in Washington, D.C. NAICU serves as the unified national voice of independent higher education. Nebraska's Platte River Cranes
& Prairie Chickens
Join Hiram College and local guides for an exciting journey this spring! Each year, half a million Sandhill Cranes descend upon the Platte River. By March, 80% of the world's population crowds a 150-mile stretch, the largest gathering of cranes anywhere in the world! Here they rest and feed before continuing on to breeding grounds in Canada, Alaska and Siberia. As an alum you can attend this amazing experience! Click HERE to learn more about this exciting trip.

Creative Writing at Northwoods Field Station
July 7th – 16th, 2013
What better place to reflect, create, and write than the remote, rustic and stunningly beautiful Northwood's Field Station in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Workshop leaders and hosts include:

Donna Hunt '97 - Lecturer of Writing & Composition, City University of New York

Jen Hirt '97 - Assistant Professor of Creative Writing & English Composition, Penn State Harrisburg

Paul Cockeram '98 - Assistant Professor of English, Harrisburg Area Community College

Our hope is that through this trip you will write at least one publishable piece and will be provided with guidance on how to publish. Field trips include exploring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, sand dunes, and the Fayette settlement. Click HERE to find more information on this trip.

Turkey
September 23rd – October 3rd, 2013
This trip begins in Istanbul, where for over 2,500 years east has met west. Highlights include the Grand Bazaar, Gallipoli, the Aegean Island of Bozcaada (Tenedos), Bergama (Pergamon), and Pammukkale (The Cotton Cliffs).
Our tour leaders, Manolis and Patricia (Haskett) Hajifotiou '84 have extensive experience in taking travelers to those "out of the way" places most "tourists" never see or experience. Follow this

Natural History of the Galapagos Islands

These are the islands that influenced Charles Darwin in 1835 and have influenced the study of biology and natural history since then. The islands are located 1,000 kilometers west of Ecuador on the equator and are home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the World – Marine Iguanas, Flightless Cormorants, Giant Tortoises, Swallow-tailed Gulls, Lava Gulls, Galapagos Penguins, Darwin's Finches, Lava Cactus, and more…
