A dedicated member of Hiram's Women's Council, Barbara Brigham McAdoo has been organizing their major fundraiser, the Encore Series, for the past three years. Encore is a year-long series of luncheon performances. It has generated over $25,000 under Barb's leadership.
The Women's Council has been an invaluable organization to Hiram College since 1940. Over the years, the Council has established a scholarship endowment worth over $180,000. Fundraising success of this magnitude from a volunteer organization is remarkable. This year, Barb took charge of the Council's other major benefit, the Day in the Country, held on campus June 13. In spite of hip replacement surgery just a few months ago, she pulled off another success, generating $7,000 for her scholarship fund.
Barb is also a dedicated leader in her professional life. In 1975, after raising their three children, she joined her husband, Garth McAdoo '55, as a licensed real estate broker in McAdoo Realty Service of Bedford. She was elected President of the Bedford Business Association, was a founder of the area's Professional Women's Network, and participated in a number of professional organizations. Since she and Garth sold the business, Barb has expanded her volunteer efforts, working with families to improve parenting skills. Additionally, she continues to sing with her church choir and has an amazing record of 40 years with the group.
Barb's commitment to her alma mater extends beyond the Women's Council. She also served three years on the Alumni Executive Board and recently worked with her 45th Reunion Committee. For her leadership and tireless dedication to her alma mater, Barb McAdoo is Hiram's Volunteer of the Year.
